Golden Bears defeat Nor’easters, 18-9

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Western New England University scored the first 10 goals of the game in an 18-9 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action at Blue Bolt Field on Saturday.
 
Dylan Hanley led the Golden Bear's offense with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Jack Houlden also scored six times in the victory. Thomas Labbe provided two goals.
 
Houlden got Western New England off to a quick start with three goals in the opening 3:34 of the game. Hanley scored twice through the remainder of the quarter as the visitors led 7-0 after one. The Golden Bears added three more during a span of a minute to expand their lead to 10-0 with 12:43 to go until the half.
 
Ryan Hazard put the Nor'easters (7-4, 1-1 CCC) with an unassisted goal at the 6:55 mark of the second quarter. WNE added three more to extend its advantage to 13-1 at the half.
 
UNE outscored Western New England 8-5 in the second half. A different Nor'easter scored every goal. Hazard led the way with three points on a goal and two assists. Chris Gottlieb, Shea Fogarty, and Finn McCoy each added a goal and assist.
 
Shots favored the visitors 47-32 and 34-17 on goal. Carter Randall earned the victory in net for WNE with nine saves. Alex Thoms made two saves over the first 17:17 of action. Evan Hazard came in relief and made 14 saves over the final 41:34 for UNE.
 
The Nor'easters are back in action on the road at Wentworth on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
