BIDDEFORD, Maine – A nine-goal second quarter helped the University of New England women's lacrosse team build a double-digit first half lead on its way to an 18-5 victory over Salem State on Tuesday at Blue Bolt Field.
Abby McHallam led the scoring for the Nor'easters (3-1) with five goals, to go with four ground balls.
Morgan White added four goals, four ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Sydney Balotin provided two goals, an assist, four ground balls, seven draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
McHallam scored three of the first four goals for UNE in the opening quarter to give the hosts a 4-1 lead.
Barrie Guertin provided the other score for the Nor'easters as she checked the ball away from the Vikings' goalkeeper, grabbed the ground ball, and found the empty cage for her first of three goals on the day. [

The Nor'easters opened the game up in the second quarter.
Morgan White and McHallam each scored to extend the lead to 6-1 with 8:55 to go until halftime. Taylor Sujko, who had four of the five Salem State goals, answered for the visitors to make it 6-2, but UNE quickly put the game out of reach with four goals in a span of just 55 seconds to make it 10-2 with 6:07 to play in the quarter.

Watch]. Chapman then struck with five second left and the Nor'easters led at halftime, 13-3.
Balotin scored her first of the night to start the third quarter and UNE remained in control for the rest of the contest.
The Nor'easters finished with a 29-5 advantage in shots on goal, and forced the Vikings into 33 turnovers. DeVries had a team-high four caused turnovers to go with three draw controls. White,
Ashjan Abdulsalam, and Huizenga each added two caused turnovers.
The Nor'easters head south for two games on spring break, beginning with NAIA member Ave Maria University in Clearwater, Fla. on Sunday at 2 p.m.
