Nor’easters defeat Ave Maria, 18-11

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The University of New England women's lacrosse team used a strong second half to pull away from Ave Maria University and get an 18-11 win in a neutral-site matchup in Clearwater, Fla. on Sunday.
 
Morgan White led the Nor'easters (4-1) with six goals and three assist. Barrie Guertin added four goals. Kelsey Hartigan and Sydney Balotin both provided two goals and two assists.
 
UNE raced out to a 5-1 cushion after the first quarter. The Gyrenes climbed back into the game, outscoring the Nor'easters 6-3 in the second quarter to close the game to 8-7 at the half.
 
The Nor'easters scored the first three goals of the second half and went up 13-9 after three quarters. White tacked on two more in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
 
Maria Turriza earned the victory in net for UNE, recording 10 saves. Micaela Jacobs had a team-high five draw controls.
 
Orianna Eldridge led Ave Maria with four goals.
 
The Nor'easters continue their southern trip on Tuesday against Susquehanna (Pa.) at 10 a.m.
