WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Kelly Yorkey scored the game-winning goal 1:09 into overtime to give Western New England a 2-1 victory over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular season finale on Saturday evening.
The teams entered the night tied with 27 points in conference play. With the victory, the Golden Bears secure the third seed and earn a bye into the conference semifinals. UNE will host fifth-seed Curry in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Nor'easters got on the board first at the 13:50 mark of the opening period.
Hannah Humes scored with assists by
Avery Lutrzykowski and
Carolyn Curley. Maggie Hold answered for Western New England 1:20 later on a power play goal. Maddy Tucker and Alyssa Murphy helped on the tying goal.
The score stood until overtime despite a good amount of chances by each side. The Golden Bears had two shots earlier in overtime before the winner was scored.
Delanie Corcoran had 35 saves for UNE in the loss. Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made 22 stops for Western New England.
Puck drops at the Harold Alfond Forum for the quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
