BIDDEFORD, Maine – Riley Esposito scored her second goal of the game with 55.3 seconds left in overtime to give Salve Regina University a 2-1 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey game at the Harold Alfond Forum on Friday.
Esposito scored the winner late in the extra frame with help from Emma Periera and Samantha McKenzie. The Seahawks (10-13-0, 5-12-0 CCC) nearly won the game earlier in overtime as shots by Periera and Dakota McMahon hit the post just over two minutes in.
Back in the first period,
Jenna Pych corralled the rebound after a shot by
Abbi Charvat and scored to give UNE (8-13-3, 7-8-2 CCC) a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of play.
Carolyn Curley also assisted on the goal, which was Pych's first of the season [

The cushion stood until 3:32 remained in the second period, when McKenzie and McMahon helped on a goal by Esposito to knot the game up. There wasn't much action on the net by either side in the third period.
Shots favored the Seahawks on the night, 32-27. Sydney Baker had 26 saves in the victory.
Delanie Corcoran made 30 stops for UNE.
