#11 UNE ties #4 Endicott, 2-2; Nor’easters get shootout point

BEVERLY, Mass. – Daniel Winslow scored the tying goal late in regulation and added the only score of the shootout in a 2-2 tie between #11 University of New England and #4 Endicott College on Friday. The Nor'easters picked up an extra point in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with the shootout victory.
 
Cass Bowes put the Gulls (18-1-2, 16-0-2 CCC) in front 2-1 with 7:43 to play in the third period. Ryan Willett and Zach Mazur provided assists on the go-ahead goal. Late in the third Anthony Sciucco hit Winslow for a short-handed tally to tie the game 2-2 with just 2:40 to play in regulation.
 
The Nor'easters (15-5-2, 13-4-1 CCC) were outshot 6-0 in the extra period but Billy Girard was able to keep the game tied. He finished with 46 saves on the evening. He also made three stops in the shootout.
 
Primo Self was denied by Girard to open the shootout. Winslow buried the lone goal on the Nor'easters first attempt to give UNE two point in the CCC standings.
 
Bowes scored the Gulls first goal of the game with help from the same two skaters as the hosts took a 1-0 advantage with 5:36 left in the second. Aidan Curran knotted it up 2:19 before intermission with help from Nathan Chickering and Dawson Ellis.
 
Atticus Kelly provided 22 saves for Endicott in the tie as the host outshot UNE by double at 48-24.
 
The Nor'easters return to the ice tomorrow night at home against Nichols at 7 p.m.
