#11 Nor’easters blast Bison, 7-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The #11 University of New England men's ice hockey team shutout Nichols College, 7-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday night.
 
The Nor'easters improve to 16-5-2 overall and 14-4-1 in conference play with just two games remaining. Nichols falls to 9-14-0 (5-14-0) on the season.
 
Jayden Price finished the night with two goals and an assist to lead the way, and scored the first for UNE just 1:17 into play when he intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and finished to the glove side [Watch].
 
The Nor'easters scored two goals in a span of 23 seconds in the second period to extend their lead. Anthony Sciucco popped in the rebound off a shot from the point by Collin Heinold to give UNE a 2-0 lead with 12:12 left in the second [Watch]. Kevin O'Keefe fed Nathan Chickering seconds later to extend the advantage [Watch]. Daniel Winslow blasted in a goal with 1:05 to play in the second, off a dish from Jake Fuss, as UNE took a 4-0 lead into intermission [Watch].
 
UNE continued to pile it on 4:02 into the third as Price scored his second of the night with help from O'Keefe [Watch]. Heinold found Shea Courtmanche for a point-blank blast with 4:10 to play to give UNE at 6-0 lead [Watch]. Dawson Ellis added a marker in the final minute to complete the scoring, with an assist from Courtmanche [Watch].

For both Courtmanche and Ellis, it was their first goals of the year. Aidan Curran joined O'Keefe, Heinold, and Courtmanche with two assists on the evening.
 
Joe Stanizzi made 15 saves to earn his second shutout against the Bison this season. Mathias Backstrom had 33 stops in just under 39 minutes of action defending the Nichols cage.
 
The Nor'easters visit Salve Regina on Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
