BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Nationally-ranked Colby College overcame an early deficit with three second-period goals to earn a 3-1 win over the University of New England in a non-conference women's ice hockey game played Tuesday evening (Dec. 5) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Mules, ranked 10th in the most recent United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III poll, improved to 4-1-0, while the Nor'easters fell to 5-4-3.
UNE opened the scoring when
Piper Desorcie notched her team-leading 7th goal of the season. Desorcie came up with the puck after it ricocheted off of
Jamie DuPont and potted home a shot from the left circle (

Mackenzie O'Leary initiated the play with shot from the right point.
After failing to score in the opening period, the Mules would respond with a trio of markers in the opening 9:25 of the second. Meg Rittenhouse tied the game at 1:14, followed by the game-winner from Courtney Shumacher at the 6:04 mark. With Colby on a power play, Beth Stinson tacked on an insurance goal just before the midway mark of the period.
Colby ended the evening with a 48-18 advantage in shots on goal, including 17-1 in the third period. Paige Bolyard earned the win in goal, coming up with 17 saves.
