BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Skating with a 4-on-3 power play late in overtime,
Lainie Lemieux delivered the game's only goal with a wrist shot from inside the left dot to give the University of New England women's ice hockey team a 1-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory against previously-unbeaten Salve Regina University on Friday night (Nov. 17) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Piper Desorcie started the deciding play with a stick-check at her own blue line, and immediately tapped it to
Hannah Humes turning up ice. Humes hit Lemieux in stride coming off the right wall through the neutral zone, creating a 3-on-1 break, and Lemieux held it until picking the top near-side corner under the crossbar with 53.4 seconds left on the clockÂ

It was the second tally of the season for Lemieux, who also netted what proved to be the game-winner versus Western New England University.
With two wins and a tie in their last three, the Nor'easters improve to 4-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play. The Seahawks (4-1-0, 2-1-0 CCC) return home to entertain UNE on Saturday night.
Both
Delanie Corcoran and Sydney Baxter recorded 25 saves for their respective sides. Corcoran had the busiest period of either one during the evening, coming up with 10 stops for the hosts in the 2nd frame. It was Corcoran's second shutout of the campaign.Â
In the extra session, UNE gained the skater with 2:50 remaining. Corcoran needed to deny SRU's Riley Esposito with the left leg at the 1:43 mark, and soon the Nor'easters were racing the other way, forcing Baxter into a save. The rebound was there for the taking, but Seahawks defender Maddie Cox stepped behind her netminder and batted it off the goal line to keep play moving.
Cox had six blocked shots to lead all players in the contest. Humes and Desorcie, as well as Esposito, each had three.
