Nationally-ranked Gulls take down UNE, 41-14

BEVERLY, Mass. -- The No. 17 Endicott College Gulls opened up a 27-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 41-14 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) football win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) at Hempstead Stadium.

The Gulls (9-1, 5-0 CCC) had already clinched the regular-season title and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which gets underway next weekend at select campus sites. Endicott has now won 13 consecutive CCC contests.

Endicott quarterback Clayton Marengi was an efficient 11-for-14 with three touchdowns. He also contributed a game-high 68 yards on the ground and scored once. Shane Alward, Adam Goodfellow and Robbie Donovan each had touchdown receptions.

Endicott's defense limited the Nor'easters (6-4, 2-3) to 245 yards of total offense, the majority of which came in the fourth quarter when the visitors scored a pair of touchdowns. Hector Johnson and Matthew Licciardi had seven tackles apiece to lead the Gulls' defense. Matthew Whelan contributed an interception.

For the Nor'easters, Jarrett Henault accounted for a pair of touchdowns, the first on a two-yard rush and the other a three-yard completion to Shane LaPorte. Henault finished the day 15-for-21 through the air and had 39 rushing yards. Damien Jones carried the ball 13 times and finished with a team-best 58 yards. Berto Zepeda caught three passes for 46 yards, including a 25-yard reception in the final quarter.

Nate Reid had a strong day on the defensive side of the ball, racking up a game-best 10 tackles. Chris Winslow and Mike Lemay each had five solo tackles.
