BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Lily Clough carried a self restart into the right edge of the circle and fired the game-winner inside the far post to give the University of New England field hockey team a 2-1 triumph in double overtime against Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) at Blue Bolt Field.
The deciding tally in the 77th minute -- Clough's team-leading fifth of the year
[Watch] -- came after more than six minutes of steady pressure by the Nor'easters. Ella Henry kept the Golden Bears in it with five of her 10 saves in the session, as the hosts racked up all eight shots and three penalty corners.
UNE (4-8, 2-0 CCC), which finished with a 23-6 advantage in total shots and 13-6 in corners, improves to 28-0 all-time versus WNEU. The Nor'easters have now won the last five times a game has gone beyond regulation.
After nine consecutive wins to start the season, the Golden Bears drop to 10-2 overall (1-2 CCC).
The Nor'easters controlled play for much of the first half, with sizable margins in shots (10-1) and corners (9-1). The home team got on the board in the 11th minute when
Kate Kelso pulled a rebound away from the goalie and tapped in her first career marker from the doorstep

Possession and pressure shifted in the other direction following halftime, though chances were limited by the UNE defense. Western New England tied things up in the 42nd minute when Carly-Anna Barba received a corner insert on the left side and directed a well-placed ball towards the far post to the waiting stick of Haley Kaczka in the crease for the tip-in.
In the first overtime period, UNE had a 3-1 edge in shots, while WNEU accounted for both corners.
Dawn DeWeese-Moss turned in two saves for the Nor'easters, who get minimal rest before entertaining Wheaton College and head coach Brooke Marshall '17 on Sunday (1 p.m.).
