BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Two goals in a span of 4:08 from
Shelly Tremblay and
Madi Robito at the end of the 3rd quarter and then early in the 4th gave the University of New England a 2-1 victory over Wheaton College (Mass.) in non-conference field hockey action at Blue Bolt Field on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 8).
The Nor'easters (5-8) had trailed for more than 37 minutes until Tremblay's equalizer, which found its way five-hole from the top of the arc after time had expired in the penultimate period. UNE had been awarded a penalty corner with fractions of a second left in the frame;
Lily Clough, who received the insert just right of center, passed it back left to Tremblay for the assist.

The hosts kept the pressure on in the last stanza and a very similar corner sequence provided the game-winner. This time Tremblay's shot from the top was headed towards the right side, tipped by
Kate Kelso off the post, and Robito pounced on the rebound in the crease to finish into the left corner.

The Lyons (4-9) went ahead in the 8th minute when Mackenzie Yates collected a rebound cutting through the middle and hit one across the body from the right side into the near portion of the cage.
Shots were 5-5 with 15 minutes complete, and corners were 2-0 for the visitors. From that point on, all of the chances were on UNE's offensive end -- 18-0 shots and 8-0 corners.
Dawn DeWeese-Moss was called upon to make a pair of save in the win for the Nor'easters, while Emma Lapreziosa recorded 11 stops for Wheaton.
Last year's meeting between the teams went scoreless into a shootout before UNE came out on top.
The Nor'easters remain in Biddeford for two game next week, beginning with a date against No.5 Tufts University on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
