Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Roger Williams University had four players in double figures to power an 87-66 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball decision versus the University of New England at Coach's Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Tuesday night (Jan. 3).

The Hawks (7-4) maintain a share of the three-way tie atop the league standings at 4-0, while the Nor'easters (2-9) dip back to 0-4.

Mac Annus hit 7-of-10 field goals and generated a game-high 19 points to lead Roger Williams. Will MacDonald scored 15 of his 17 in the 1st half, and grabbed seven rebounds. Sean Gogolin came off the bench to supply 14 points and a team-best eight boards, and Nate Lopes chipped in with 11 points and six caroms.

The visitors made just under half of their shots in the match (49.3%), which was aided by 30-of-46 accuracy from inside the arc. The Hawks also converted 15 UNE turnovers into 21 points going the other way.

The Nor'easters, who shot 42 percent from the floor (29-for-69), were guided by 16 points apiece from Adrian Torres and Evan Hauser. Torres made his night a double-double with a game-best 11 rebounds, and picked up three steals. Hauser, making his UNE debut after transferring at the semester break, splashed 4-of-5 from downtown and snagged six boards. Ryan Lin and Zach Boulay each contributed another eight points.

Roger Williams utilized a 12-2 spurt spanning 2:25 to gain a 29-18 lead in the latter portion of the opening period. A Gogolin trey and back-to-back dunks by Lopes and Gogolin sparked the separation. The difference was nine nearing the final minute of the 1st, but a three-pointer from Annus and two hoops by MacDonald quickly bumped the spread to 44-28.

The gap barely moved in either direction over the first eight minutes of the 2nd half, as the teams alternated on 15 scoring plays until Annus from long range made it 64-44 with 11:48 left.

UNE is back in action on Thursday at Curry College.
