BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – Lainie Lemieux scored a goal and added an assist for the University of New England as it defeated Nichols College, 2-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey matchup at Levy Rink on Saturday.
 
UNE (7-10-1, 6-5-1 CCC) was outshot by a 10-8 margin in the first period, but Lemieux was able to put the Nor'easters in front at the 6:12 mark of the frame with goal off an assist from Abbi Charvat.
 
The Nor'easter offense controlled the puck the rest of the game, holding a 44-10 advantage in attempts over the final two periods. McKenna Remillard extended the UNE lad with 33-8 seconds left in the second. Jamie DuPont and Lemieux assisted on the goal.
 
Avery Moriarty put in a power play goal for the Bison (4-12-1, 2-9-0 CCC) late in the third period. Sarah Zeidan and Isabella Potts helped on the score. Nichols played with an extra skater over the final 1:19 and had a few good chances on net, but were unable to send the game to overtime for the second night in a row.
 
Kaleigh Laurendeau made 19 saves in her first start in net on the season. Victoria Bakopanos had 50 stops in the loss for Nichols.
 
UNE returns to the Forum on Tuesday night against Bowdoin at 7 p.m.
