Seahawks halt Nor'easters, 60-45

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University got out to a 15-5 cushion on the way to picking up a 60-45 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball decision against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14) at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

The Seahawks (10-5, 5-3 CCC) received 14 points, four assists, and four steals from Ashley Rourke, and another 13 points out of Amanda Folan. Megan Henaghan had a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds, to go with five assists and four blocks. Olivia Martin totaled nine points, nine boards, and four steals.

Keagan Dunbar netted a game-best 20 points and six caroms to pace the Nor'easters (10-5, 6-2 CCC). Mackenzie Burke added five points and team-high 10 rebounds.

UNE managed to force SRU into a 26 turnovers on the day but struggled to find the range on offense, making just 24 percent of its looks at the hoop (16-for-66).

The spread was 35-19 at the half and grew to as many as 24 (45-21) before the middle of the 3rd quarter.

The Nor'easters return home to face Suffolk University (4-4 CCC) on Wednesday.
