BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Caroline Higgins netted a pair of 1st-quarter goals and assisted on another in the 2nd to lead No.6 Bowdoin College in a 4-1 field hockey result versus the University of New England at Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday night (Sep. 7).
The Polar Bears (1-0) had three penalty corners in the opening period and Higgins, the inserter, scored on two of those possessions. The first was tipped in off a drive by Georgie Coetzer in the 5th minute, and then a short pass in traffic from Jill Cloonan set up the other in the 12th minute.
Almira Arnold finished a bouncing rebound in the 21st minute to make it 3-0, after Cloonan rang the right post. Just over a minute later, off a feed from Higgins, Coetzer netted a drive from the top of the arc.
The Nor'easters (0-2) made a late push before the half, earning their first corner after a sequence that saw Bowdoin goalie Julia Arsenault disrupt multiple near shot attempts well out of her crease.
UNE carried that bit of momentum into the 3rd frame, and out-shot Bowdoin by a 3-1 margin. The lone corner led a goal for the hosts in the 38th minute, as
Kate Lindmark pocketed a bouncing rebound near the left post.

Arsenault made one save for Bowdoin, which ended on top in shots (21-5) and corners (12-2).
The Nor'easters continue their season-opening five-game homestand this weekend with games against Denison University (Saturday, 12 p.m.) and No.1 Middlebury College (Sunday, 1 p.m.).
