BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Madi Robito netted a pair of goals to lead the University of New England in a 3-2 field hockey victory over Denison University at Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 10).
The Big Red struck first late in the opening period off a penalty corner, as Madeleine Hunt drove home a feed from Abigail Hano. Robito pulled the Nor'easters level in the 22nd minute, popping one over the keeper;
Francesca Caccamo registered the assist from outside the circle.

UNE then scored on the only two shots of the 3rd quarter to jump out to a 3-1 cushion. First, it was Robito right in front, batting a bouncing pass off the stick of
Kate Lindmark under the goalie in the 35th minute

Emily Jacobs added the next one in the 40th minute, converting a behind-the-back feed from
Bailey Lynch along the right end line

Denison (1-1) did not go quietly in the 4th, though, and drew within one with just over 10 minutes remaining. Grace Lock kept a UNE clearance from leaving the circle and flipped a shot through a screen inside the far post. The visitors had a couple corners in the waning moments, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Lindsay Pych totaled three saves for the Nor'easters (1-2), who finished on top of a 13-9 margin in shot attempts. On the other side, the Big Red received seven stops out of Athena Joannou and a defensive save from Helen Breen.
UNE will have a short rest before welcoming the four-time reigning NCAA champions and No.1-ranked Middlebury College to Biddeford on Sunday (1 p.m.).
