Bears claw past UNE, 3-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Trailing 10-6 in the 5th set, Bridgewater State University rallied with nine of the last 10 points for the 3-2 women's volleyball decision (27-25, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11) versus the University of New England on Tuesday night (Sep. 6) at the Tinsley Center.

Becca Whalen and Sarah Brogioli led the host Bears (1-0) with 10 kills apiece, while Savannah Quintal and Bethany Votta each put up 14 assists. Meaghan Coutu tossed in seven kills and four aces. Brogioli and Quintal both turned in double-doubles with 19 and 10 digs, respectively. Victoria Caiano picked up 21 along the back line, and Alicia Delaney had another 16 digs.

For the Nor'easters (1-3), Ellijah Hanley posted a double-double of 11 kills and 15 digs. Viktoria Pavlyuk added 10 winners, and Kailyn Reilly put down six to go with three blocks. Addie Miller, who tallied a double-double of 22 assists and 15 digs, shared the team high of four service aces with Hanley. Morgan Lynch totaled 20 digs, and Reese LeMay accounted for 13 more.

After a tight opening set that Coutu and Quintal closed out for the hosts at 25-all, UNE recorded seven unanswered in the 2nd to overcome a late two-point deficit. BSU narrowly took the third, but another timely run (8-2) by the Nor'easters at 16-15 in the 4th led to tying up the match. 

UNE will have a tri-match on Saturday at Worcester State University. The Nor'easters begin with Trinity College at 3 p.m.
