Bowdoin shuts out UNE, 6-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team won its season-opener, 6-0, of the University of New England at Blue Storm Stadium on Tuesday night.
 
Harry Cooper booted home a cross from Minseo Bae to get the scoring started in the 3rd minute. Cooper finished with a hat trick in the victory. Charlie Ward fought through the UNE defense and scored on his own rebound to put Bowdoin ahead 2-0 at the 7:29 mark of the first half. Carlton Steinberg added a penalty kick goal in the 23rd minute. The Polar Bears took a 4-0 lead into the half after Mateo Pacelli fed a through pass to Ronaldo Cabral for a goal with 21 seconds left in the period.
 
Cooper added goals in the 62nd and 65th minutes to complete the hat trick.
 
Nick Reffel had three of the Nor'easters' four shots on the night. Sean McCarthy made 11 stops for UNE in the loss. Michael Webber saved the only shot he faced in net in the victory.
 
UNE is back in action on Saturday afternoon at Southern Maine at 12 p.m.
