BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Goals from Demarest Janis and Caelin Flaherty in the opening 24 minutes was just enough for No.5 Trinity College (Conn.) to fend off the University of New England by a 2-1 score in field hockey action at Blue Bolt Field on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 18).

The Bantams move to 5-0 on the season, while the Nor'easters slip back to 2-5 overall. Four of UNE's setbacks have come against nationally-ranked opponents, including three in the top six at the time of contests.

In the 5th minute, Flaherty picked the ball from the last defender and carried into the circle before sliding it across the Janis, who finished right in front. Flaherty then made it 2-0 for the visitors with a redirection in front off a drive by Izzy Deveney.

The Nor'easters got their one back prior to the midway break, as Kate Lindmark converted a penalty stroke with seven seconds left.

Both sides had a few chances following halftime, but both goalies stood their ground. UNE's lone penalty corner in the last 30 minutes came early in the 4th, but the shot from the top of the arc whistled just wide.

Olivia McMichael made two stops for Trinity, which had a 15-6 advantage in total shots and 9-4 in corners. On the other end for the Nor'easters, Lindsay Pych notched seven saves.

UNE gets back to Commonwealth Coast Conference action next Saturday versus Salve Regina University (1 p.m.).
