LEWISTON, Maine – Two second-half goals helped the Bates College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the University of New England in non-conference action at Garcelon Field on Monday night.
After a scoreless first period which saw the Bobcats outshoot the Nor'easters 16-2, Seba Niehenke put the hosts on the board just 29 seconds into the second half. He one-timed a cross off the foot of Alex Szwarcewicz off a UNE defender and into the net.
A defensive miscue led to an own goal by the Nor'easters in the 71st minute.
Triston O'Hagan kept the game close for UNE and finished with 10 saves in net. Nico Hessell earned the victory in net for Bates.
UNE begins a three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon against UMaine Farmington at 4 p.m.
