BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Top-ranked Middlebury College tallied a goal in each period to secure a 4-0 result against the University of New England in field hockey action Sunday afternoon (Sep. 11) at Blue Bolt Field.

Total shots were 26-3 in favor of the Panthers (3-0), who also racked up 14 penalty corners. The Nor'easters (1-3) -- who only have setbacks to nationally-ranked foes so far -- earned two corners in the 3rd stanza.

Caroline Haggerty opened the scoring in the 7th minute, tipping in a drive by Amy Griffin from the top of the arc. UNE was holding its own in the defensive end, but less than two minutes into the 2nd quarter, Griffin doubled the lead with a penalty stroke.

A solid individual effort by Katie George added one in the 33rd minute, as she carried it roughly 30 yards from the corner into the top of the circle and slotted a shot inside the left post. Ellie Harrison capped the scoresheet in the 53rd minute, finishing a rebound in front.

Lindsay Pych matched a personal-best at UNE with 12 saves between the pipes. Lauren Green also had a defensive save in the 3rd period.

In goal for Middlebury, starter Grace Harlan logged almost 55 minutes and made one stop. Thea Rosenzweig kept the shutout in tact by denying a shot in the waning seconds.

The Nor'easters stay at home and will entertain Colby College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
