BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England athletics department would like to recognize the academic achievements of 66 student-athletes who have qualified to join the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society during the 2021-22 academic year.
Chi Alpha Sigma is the first and only nonprofit organization that was established to recognize college student-athletes at four-year institutions who excel both on and off the field of competition. To be eligible for Chi Alpha Sigma, student-athletes must have completed at least five semesters (juniors) with a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher. The inductees receive an honors cord to be worn with their regalia at their graduation ceremony.
"Induction into Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes the qualities of superior academic performance, intercollegiate athletics participation, outstanding leadership, and dedication to the University," shared Kristen Bailey '02, UNE faculty athletics representative and associate clinical professor of athletic training. "These student-athletes are celebrated for their outstanding academic abilities in the classroom, and should be commended for fully embracing the NCAA Division III Academic-Athletics model."
UNE welcomes the following 2022 Chi Alpha Sigma inductees, bringing the local chapter total up to 587 student-athletes honored since 2004:
