NEWPORT, R.I. -- Makenzy Herron totaled six hits, including a 4-for-4 game two, to pace the University of New England in a 10-6, 8-4 doubleheader sweep of Salve Regina University, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball action Sunday afternoon (Apr. 3) at Toppa Field.

The Nor'easters complete the opening weekend of CCC play at 3-1 against the Rhode Island schools, and now stand at 9-13 overall. UNE will now prepare to visit reigning league champion Endicott College on Saturday.

Herron doubled her season hit total with her first two multi-hit outings of the year. Four others also registered at least three hits during the twinbill -- Abby Miner, Taylor Depot, Grace Tutt, and Megan Chamberlain.

Alie Martell totaled two hits and three RBI, while getting the pitching win in GAME 1 (UNE 10-6). Nicole Cacciola tacked on another two hits in the opener.

Jordan Strum went the distance in the circle in GAME 2 (UNE 8-4). Lindsay Joyal added a couple of hits.
