UNE storms past Gordon, 18-4

WENHAM, Mass. – The University of New England women's lacrosse team ran away from Gordon College, 18-4, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Barrie Guertin led the Nor'easters (3-10, 2-4 CCC) with four goals in the victory. Paige DeVries filled the box score with three goals, an assist, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Kelsey Hartigan scored and dished out five assists. Anna Stowell, Danielle Skinner, and Morgan White each added two goals. White also provided three assists and three draw controls.
 
Guertin and Stowell put UNE in front 2-0 by the 7:31 mark of the first quarter. Kaitlyn Mini cut the deficit in half for Gordon (6-7, 0-5 CCC) with 6:39 to play. Only 23 seconds later, White found Guertin to give the Nor'easters a 3-1 advantage after a quarter.
 
Jozie Bolduc capped a five-goal run by UNE with a free-position shot to start the second quarter to build an 8-1 lead. The Nor'easters led 9-2 at halftime.
 
UNE scored the first seven goals of the second half, all by different players, to extend the margin to 16-2. Mini and Hailey Beling fired back-to-back goals for the Fighting Scots to end the run. DeVries and Skinner finished the scoring for the Nor'easters.
 
Madison Bruzzese made six saves for UNE in the victory. Annabel Christenson made two stops, earning the loss in goal. Janelle Maxwell played the final 17:06 in net, stopping one shot while allowing four goals.
 
The Nor'easters return home for the final time this year on Saturday, April 23 against Roger Williams at 4 p.m.
