Engineers down Nor’easters, 17-7

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Massachusetts Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team picked a 17-7 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
 
The Engineers (4-0) started fast, getting out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Ryan Gebhardt scored three of his game-high five goals in the quarter. Heath Nilsen added two early goals.
 
Kyle Kennedy put the Nor'easters (2-3) on the board in the opening minute of the second quarter with his first of four goals on the afternoon. MIT scored three more times before Colin Watt added a man-up goal for UNE to make the score 11-2. The Engineers held a 13-2 lead at the half.
 
UNE outscored MIT 5-4 in the second half. Kennedy scored three times for the Nor'easters while Jordan White and Ryan Hazard each added a goal.
 
Lukas Drexler-Bruce played the opening half in goal for MIT and made one save while allowing two goals. David Vapnek and Devin McCabe split the final half, making five saves each.
 
Matt Deyette had nine saves for the Nor'easters in the first half. Kyle Prior made eight stops in the second half.
 
UNE returns to action at Southern Maine on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
