Strong second half lifts Gulls over Nor’easters, 12-6

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Endicott College outscored the University of New England 8-1 in the second half on its way to a 12-6 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday night.
 
The Nor'easters came out of the gate strong and led 2-0 after a quarter. Colin Watt made a long run towards goal and beat Endicott goaltender Tim Luciano for the first UNE goal at the 5:34 mark of the period [Watch]. Jordan White found Kyle Kennedy for a man-up goal in the final minute of the quarter [Watch].
 
Endicott quickly responded to start the second with three goals in a span of 2:40. Michael Hauptman trimmed the deficit in the half with a goal in the opening minute with help from Nick Pagluiso. Pagluiso, who finished with four goals and three assists, tied the game up at the 13:36 mark of the period. Hauptman later found Max Kesicki to give the Gulls and 3-2 lead with 12:20 to play in the half.
 
White connected with Andrew Lawrence for a man-up goal with 11:12 remaining in the second to tie the game 3-3 [Watch]. The score remained even until the 3:28 mark of the period as Craig Claflin put the Gulls back in front. Jack Martin knotted it up at 4-4 just under a minute later with a turnaround shot through traffic for his first goal of the season [Watch].
 
Pagluiso scored twice to start the second half as Endicott began to pull away. Claflin hit Hauptman for a score to extend the lead to 7-4 midway through the third quarter. Lawrence answered with his second of the day to bring the Nor'easters back within two but they were unable to get any closer.
 
Domenic Russo put in three straight goals to start the fourth quarter and give the Gulls an 11-5 lead. Kennedy was able to get one back in the final minute off an assist by White, his third of the day. Claflin added a goal with seven seconds remaining.
 
Endicott held a large advantage in shots at 56-26 overall and 28-15 on goal. Matt Deyette made a season-high 16 saves in the loss for UNE. Luciano had nine stops for Endicott.
 
Mike Spillane and Todd Cravedi led the Nor'easter defense with two caused turnovers each. Lawrence had a team-best four ground balls.
 
The Nor'easters return home on Tuesday afternoon against Wentworth at 4 p.m.
