CHESTER, Pa. -- Widener University broke away from an early deadlock with 13 of the next 15 goals on the way to a 20-9 result against the University of New England in men's lacrosse action at Quick Stadium's Hirschmann Field on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 19).
After trading the initial scores (1-1), the Pride struck for the next four and led 6-2 after the 1st quarter. The margin was 10-2 at the midway intermission, and it was 14-3 with 4:30 left in the 3rd period.
Kyle Kennedy closed the gap to 15-6 by the opening stages of the 4th, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Connor Heisman tallied five goals and three assists to lead the Pride (2-5), and Matt Buckley contributed three markers. Adam Oldrati went 14-for-22 in face-offs and scooped up 11 ground balls. Keegan Billie made two saves through 45 minutes to register the goalkeeping decision.
Kennedy was the lone multiple scorer for the Nor'easters (4-5), matching Heisman's game-high of five goals.
Jordan White and
Andrew Lawrence each had three points for the visitors.
Matt Deyette turned back 14 shots in the same time as his starting counterpart, Billie.
Alex Thoms totaled six saves the rest of the way.
UNE returns to the region and will kick off its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate next Saturday at Western New England University.
