BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Abby Cavallaro dialed up a career-high 27 points as the University of New England women's basketball team registered a 74-66 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Western New England University on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5).

With the win, the Nor'easters (12-8) complete the season sweep of the Golden Bears and improve to 10-3 in CCC action, now alone in second place with five games remaining. Back in early January, UNE needed to overcome a 17-point deficit for an overtime triumph at Western New England.

Cavallaro hit five from downtown to help her scoring total, and collected five caroms. Allie Goodman chipped in with 16 points and four assists, and Jordyn Franzen added nine points with eight rebounds.

The Nor'easters got off to a hot start through the initial six minutes (18-10), behind 11 from Cavallaro [Watch / Watch]. The visitors were back level by the end of the 1st quarter (18-18), though, and things stayed tight into the halftime break (UNE 33-31).

Western New England snagged its first lead in the 3rd (34-33) on a triple by Abby Garaban, and had the edge at 38-35 and 44-42, but Goodman and Cavallaro were there for answers each time. A three-point play by Goodman [Watch] and a hoop from Cavallaro [Watch], around a free throw for the Golden Bears, gave UNE a lead it would not relinquish (47-45) with 2:01 left in the penultimate period.

Sierra Tartre contributed her five points in the 4th, first to go up 53-48 [Watch], and then she nailed a trey with 4:53 on the clock to make it 59-54 [Watch]. While Grace Fisher countered with a basket for WNEU, Juliana Tracey and Kaylee Beyor put together a 9-0 run to extend the cushion to 68-56 [Watch / Watch]. Six by Fisher did have things back to 68-62 with 1:39 showing, but the Nor'easters made all six free throws in the waning moments to seal it.

Tartre also shared the team lead with eight boards, and recorded a couple steals, to support the winning cause.

Garaban topped the Golden Bears (7-13, 5-8 CCC) with 16 points, and Fisher ended with 15. Shaina Cooney totaled 12 points and eight rebounds.

UNE will take to the road for its next three, beginning with Suffolk University (8-4 CCC) on Tuesday.
