Nor’easters storm through Mariners, 14-5

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's lacrosse team jumped out to a seven-goal lead and never looked back on its way to a 14-5 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in non-conference action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Sunday.
 
Andrew Lawrence led the way for the Nor'easters with nine points on five goals and four assists. Jordan White and Ryan Hazard each added two goals. Kyle Kennedy had a goal and three assists.
 
Kennedy started the scoring for UNE (2-1) with his fifth goal of the season off an assist by Lawrence 1:32 into play [Watch]. Ryan Hazard and Ben Gowell each scored goals 40 seconds apart as the Nor'easters led 3-0 with 11:10 to play in the first. Lawrence extended the lead to 5-0 after a quarter with back-to-back goals. Lawrence scored again to begin the second and later found Sam McGregor for a goal as UNE led 7-0 at the 11:03 mark of the period. Ian Haines put the Mariners on the board off the ensuing face-off and the score remained 7-1 at halftime.
 
The teams traded goals to start the second half as White scored twice for the Nor'easters broken up by a Sam Nichol goal for Maine Maritime (0-1) early in the third. Lawrence added his fourth of the game off another assist from Kennedy at the 8:33 mark. Zeke Tocci and Chandler Coombs answered with two goals in a span of 12 seconds for the Mariners, but a marker by Hazard with 3:14 to play made the score 11-4 in favor of the hosts. [Watch]
 
Lawrence added his fifth goal of the day for the Nor'easters to open the fourth quarter. Gabriel Martin put in his first of the season at the 8:31 mark and Gavin Tanis gave UNE its largest lead of the afternoon at 14-4 with a goal with 7:52 to play [Watch]. Matt Deyette made 13 saves in the cage for the Nor'easters. Ethan Snowman had six saves in the first three quarters. Zach McCarthy stopped two shots and allowed two goals in the fourth for the Mariners.
 
UNE visits Emerson on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
