BIDDEFORD, Maine – Fourth-seeded University of New England earned a 2-0 victory over No. 5 Western New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship First Round on Wednesday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The victory sets up a semifinal matchup between the Nor'easters and No.3 Nichols on Saturday in Burrillville, R.I. The Bison needed overtime to defeat No. 6 Salve Regina, 3-2, in the opening round. [

Following nearly two periods of scoreless action,
Carolyn Curley put the hosts on the board with a power play goal with 2:20 left in the second period.

Eliana Kane assisted on the score for the Nor'easters. [

Abby Charvat added some insurance for UNE (10-12-2) with her first career goal at the 15:30 mark of the third period.
Keely Kasputis found her in front of the net and, after her initial shot was saved, Charvat lifted the puck to the top corner to put the Nor'easters up 2-0. [

Delanie Corcoran stopped all 20 shots she faced to earn her third shutout of the season for UNE. Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made 33 saves for Western New England, which finishes its inaugural season with a record of 7-15-4.
The time for Saturday's semifinal has yet to be announced. All three games between the Nor'easters and Bison this season have been decided by one goal, with Nichols taking two, including a 2-1 result in the regular season finale.
