MIDDLETOWN, R.I. –
Bella Crugnale scored the game-winning goal 1:42 into overtime to give the University of New England a 4-3 win over Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey matchup on Friday night.
The Nor'easters (9-11-2, 9-6-2 CCC) led 3-0 after two periods before allowing the Seahawks to battle back to tie the game with three goals in the third.
Eliana Kane gave UNE a 1-0 advantage 6:48 into the first period with her third goal in the last four games.
Abbi Charvat and
Anna O'Neill assisted on the goal.
Meghan Hamilton extended the lead to 2-0 in the second with help from
Avery Lutrzykowski and
McKenna Remillard. She has now scored four times in the last four games and leads the team with eight goals this season. Remillard added a goal of her own with 7:40 to play in the second period as the Nor'easters pulled ahead 3-0.
Cassidy Lariviere began the Seahawk comeback with a score at the 13:50 mark of the third period. Maddie Cox made it a one-goal game just over three minutes later. A power play goal by Dakota McMahon with 6:15 left to play tie the game.
In the extra period, a poke check by
Carolyn Curley led to a 2-on-1 rush for the Nor'easters. Lutrzykowski connected with Crugnale across the middle for a one-timer that found the back of the net to give UNE the victory.
Shots favored the Seahawks 33-26 on the night.
Delanie Corcoran had 33 stops to pick up the win in net. Madison Jalbert made 26 stops in the loss.
The Nor'easters return home to finish the regular season tomorrow night against Nichols at 6 p.m.
