MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Shannon Burke scored two first-period goals to lead the Wesleyan University women's ice hockey team past the University of New England in a non-conference matchup at Spurrier-Snyder Rink on Saturday afternoon.
Burke scored her first of the game with 5:32 left to play in the first with help from assists by Jenna Stevens and Caroline Kee. She put the Cardinals ahead 2-0 just 1:34 later with another power play goal.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second period.
Meghan Hamilton cut the deficit in half for the Nor'easters with a goal 5:07 into the third.
McKenna Remillard and
Piper Desorcie assisted on the score. Wesleyan added two more goals later in the period as Isabelle Allieri and Kee scored the final two for the hosts.
Shots favored the Cardinals 36-15 on the night. Rei Halloran made 14 saves to earn the victory in goal.
Delanie Corcoran had 32 stops for the Nor'easters.
UNE takes a break from the ice as its next game will be on Friday, Jan. 6 at Southern Maine at 4 p.m.
