Huskies turnaround early deficit to edge Nor’easters, 3-1

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine scored three unanswered goals in the final two periods to earn a 3-1 victory over in-state rival University of New England in women's ice hockey action on Friday.
 
The teams split their series after the Nor'easters (5-8-1) claimed a season-opening 2-1 victory over the Huskies (6-7-0) back on October 28.
 
UNE got on the scoreboard first as Hannah Humes tallied a power play goal 5:52 into the opening period. McKenna Remillard and Eliana Kane provided assists as the visitors held the lead into intermission.
 
Madison Chagnon buried an unassisted goal to knot the game up for Southern Maine with 5:44 to play in the second period. Only 1:18 later, the Huskies grabbed the lead as Amanda Crowley scored with assists by Olivia Stewart and Ally Stymiest. The 2-1 advantage remained into the break.
 
Georgie Snow found Saige MacLeod for a goal to extend the lead to 3-1 for the Huskies with 7:47 remaining in the game. UNE outshot Southern Maine by a 12-1 margin the rest of the way but were unable to draw closer.
 
Overall, the Nor'easters held a 27-22 advantage in shots on the night. Haley McKim made 26 saves for the Huskies. Delanie Corcoran stopped 19 shots in the loss for UNE.
 
The Nor'easters return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action next Friday at Endicott at 7 p.m.
