Keely Kasputis struck for goals at 19:06 of the 2nd period and 6:15 of the 3rd to lead the University of New England in a 4-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey victory against Western New England University at the Olympia Ice Center on Friday night (Nov. 4).
The Nor'easters (2-0, 1-0 CCC) received 24 saves out of
Delanie Corcoran to secure the win, while dealing the Golden Bears their first setback of the young season (2-1, 0-1 CCC).
After a scoreless 1st frame, the host got on the board first just 110 seconds into the middle period on a score by Alyssa Murphy with an extra skater. UNE countered with goals from
Maeve Crehan and
Anna O'Neill at 5:58 and 8:10, respectively, to jump in front, however a power-play marker from Maddy Tucker knotted things with under five to go in the 2nd.
Emily Long and
Hannah Humes assisted on Kasputis' go-ahead tally (3-2) before the second intermission.Â
Kasputis has accounted for three of UNE's six scores thus far in 2022-23. Humes and O'Neill both finished with multi-point performances for the Nor'easters, while
Avery Lutrzykowski,
Jamie DuPont, and
Ava Salerno also helped with one assist each.
Luciana Robertelli turned in 38 stops in a losing effort for Western New England.
The teams will both make their way to Maine for a 5 p.m. face-off at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday.
