BIDDEFORD, Maine -- A 2nd-period goal by Katie Cronin and 51 saves out of Rieley Jessie-Gerelli was enough for Western New England University to clip the University of New England women's ice hockey team, 1-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Saturday evening (Nov. 5) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The lone tally for the Golden Bears (3-1, 1-1 CCC) came with 7:31 left in the middle stanza. Emma Birmingham pulled the puck from the corner and sent it back up to the point, where Brie Dube shoveled it towards the target. About two-thirds of the way there, Cronin redirected it out of the air and just inside the right post, around UNE goalie
Delanie Corcoran.
The Nor'easters (2-1, 1-1 CCC) had the majority of the chances on the night, but could not solve Jessie-Gerelli. The hosts even put 23 shots into the WNEU netminder in the 3rd period.
Corcoran totaled 27 stops for UNE, which entertains Curry College on Friday (7 p.m.).
