Five unanswered power Mustangs past #11 Nor’easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Stevenson University held No.11 University of New England scoreless over the final two periods in a 6-2 road victory in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday.
 
The Nor'easters (4-3) got off to a quick start as a shot from the blue line by Alex Sheehy was redirected by both Ryan Kuzmich and Garrett Devine for a power play goal 2:26 into the game [Watch]. Aidan McDowell cleaned up a rebound to tie the score for Stevenson (4-5) at the 13:31 mark of the period.
 
Devine added another power play goal with 6:30 to play in the first to give UNE back the lead, off a feed from Logan DiScanio. Sheehy provided his second assist as well. [Watch]
 
Stevenson took control to start the second period with two quick goals 41 seconds apart to pull in front 3-2. Malcolm Palmer buried the tying goal with help from the second of three assists by Brendan Rylott 1:29 into the frame. Then Liam McCanney scored to put the Mustangs in front.
 
McDowell put in his second of the afternoon on a power play at the 9:53 mark of the second to extend the visitor lead to 4-2. Stevenson led 5-2 after the second period with a late goal by Zach Egber. Connor MacDonell skated through the UNE defense a buried the puck 1:55 into the third for the Mustangs' final goal.
 
The Stevenson defense got in between the Nor'easter passing lanes all game and held UNE to a season-low 21 shots. Ryan Kenny had 19 saves in the victory. Billy Girard IV made 33 stops in the loss.
 
UNE returns to the Forum on Friday night for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup with Suffolk at 7 p.m.
