Bowdoin tops Nor'easters, 81-51

Statistics

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Five players in double figures powered Bowdoin College in an 81-51 men's basketball result versus the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Nov. 22) at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (2-2) were guided by a 17-point, eight-rebound performance out of James McGowan, while Xander Werkman supplied 13 points and eight boards. Afamdi Achufusi, Jaden Hill, and Kevin Reeves each added 10 points for the hosts, who shot 55 percent (34-of-62) from the field and displayed nearly identical efficiency from downtown (7-for-13).

Bowdoin also held a commanding 48-24 advantage on the glass.

For the Nor'easters (2-4), Winston Bryan registered 12 points and both Adrian Torres and Sam McElliott chipped in with 11. UNE had just nine turnovers in the contest -- a season-low -- but only made 33 percent (21-for-63) of its attempts from the floor.

After a 4-2 start for the visitors, the Polar Bears scored six straight to take the lead for good. It was 18-15 approaching the midway mark of the 1st half before a 16-2 spurt doubled the cushion (34-17) in the latter stages of the frame.

The Nor'easters managed to close the gap a little (36-23) at intermission, and a three-pointer by Bryan had them within 11 (40-29) early in the 2nd, but Bowdoin out-scored UNE by a 2-to-1 ratio the rest of the way.

UNE gets back to work on Sunday at Bates College.
