BIDDEFORD, Maine – McKenna Remillard scored two first-period goals to help the University of New England to a 3-1 victory over Salve Regina in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey matchup at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday.
With 4:11 to play in the opening period,
Keely Kasputis found Remillard at center ice. Remillard skated past her defender and beat the Salve Regina netminder one-on-one to the stick side to give UNE the early lead [
Watch]. She scored her second of the day as she corralled the puck in the defensive end after a blocked shot by
Jenna Pych. Remillard took it the distance, skating through three defenders to put the Nor'easters in front 2-0 after a period. [

The Nor'easters (5-2, 4-2 CCC) were held scoreless in the second period despite a 15-9 shot advantage. Late in the third period,
Carolyn Curley forced a turnover in the offensive zone and easily scored on the empty net with 3:05 left to play [
Watch]. Samantha McKenzie halted the shutout with a goal with 18.6 seconds left as she redirected a pass from Lauren Cloherty into the net for Salve Regina (2-4, 0-4 CCC).
Delanie Corcoran posted a season-best 30 saves in the near shutout victory for the Nor'easters. Sydney Baxter stopped 29 shots for the Seahawks.
UNE is back at home on Tuesday afternoon against #11 Amherst College at 4 p.m.
