BIDDEFORD, Maine – No.11 Amherst College picked up a 5-2 road victory over the University of New England in a non-conference women's ice hockey matchup at the Harold Alfond Forum on Tuesday afternoon.
Emily Hohmann was one of three Mammoths to record a goal and assist and started the scoring for the visitors with 10:55 to play in the first period on a blast from the blue line. Rylee Glennon and Maeve Reynolds assisted on the score. Despite being out-shot by a 17-2 margin in the frame, UNE got even late in the period when
Avery Lutrzykowski grabbed a loose puck in the defensive zone and found
Bella Crugnale for a backhand finish to tie the game. [

Jayna Park, with an assist from Marie-Eve Marleau, put Amherst (2-1) back in front at the 9:37 mark of the second period. The Mammoths extended their lead to 3-1 early in the third as Kate Pohl stuffed home a pass from the blue line by Leslie Schwartz. Schwartz added another assist 1:37 later as she found Marleau who skated through three defenders to score.
The Nor'easters (5-3) grabbed one back with 11:53 to play as
Meghan Hamilton won an offensive-zone faceoff back to
Piper Desorcie who buried it to cut the deficit to 4-2 [
Watch]. The goal was the first power-play tally for UNE this season. Reynolds pushed in a the final goal for Amherst just over a minute later.
Natalie Stott had 14 stops for the Mammoths, who held a 49-16 advantage in shots on goal.
Delanie Corcoran made 44 saves for UNE in the loss.
UNE returns to the ice on Saturday at Trinity at 7 p.m.
