Padellaro strikes twice as Nor'easters blank WNEU, 3-0

Statistics

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sarah Padellaro scored a pair of 3rd-quarter goals as the University of New England shutout Western New England University by a 3-0 tally in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey contest on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Golden Bear Stadium.

Winners of three straight, the Nor'easters (5-5) now stand at 3-0 midway through the league slate. UNE has taken all 27 meetings against the Golden Bears (5-3, 1-1 CCC) since the programs first squared off in 2007.

After a scoreless opening half, with limited chances for either side, the visitors took control following the break and cashed in on two penalty corners. Padellaro finished feeds from Shelly Tremblay (37th) and Micaela Jacobs (43rd) for her first two markers of the year.

Tremblay then deposited a pass from Bailey Lynch in the 50th minute to cap the scoring on another corner situation. Tremblay and the rest of the UNE defense yielded just two shots-on-goal to Western New England all afternoon.

Lindsay Pych denied both of those attempts to backstop her first shutout of the season for the Nor'easters, who will visit No.13 Bates College on Tuesday.

For the Golden Bears, who were out-shot (12-5) and out-cornered (11-6), Zoey Wexler posted five stops.
