#14 Bobcats halt UNE, 3-0

Statistics

LEWISTON, Maine -- Paige Cote had a goal and two assists as No.14 Bates College recorded a 3-0 field hockey result against the University of New England on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 4) at Campus Ave Field.

The Bobcats move to 6-4 on the year, while the Nor'easters slip back to 5-6 overall. Now five of UNE's setbacks have come against nationally-ranked opponents.

Bates came out strong in the 1st period but Lindsay Pych turned away five shots to keep the hosts off the board. It was scoreless past the midway mark of the 2nd, before two goals in 55 seconds put the Bobcats in front. First it was Anna Cote finishing a feed from older sister Paige, and then Paige scored with an assist from Maria Femia.

Less than two minutes following halftime, Paige setup Ella Blum to make it 3-0.

Bates starting goalie Grace Biddle and Kaili Jacobsen split time between the posts but neither was called upon for a save. The Bobcats totaled 22 shots (to UNE's 1) and directed 14 on-target, while holding a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Pych wrapped up 45 minutes with nine saves for the Nor'easters, and Dawn DeWeese-Moss denied two in the final quarter.

UNE will now prepare for a busy weekend that starts on Saturday with a visit to conference foe Roger Williams University. On Sunday, the squad stop by Wheaton College for a non-league date.
