NEWPORT, R.I. -- Mikey Spencer put in 33 points to pace Salve Regina University past the University of New England, 78-57, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Friday evening (Jan. 28) at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Winners of five straight, the Seahawks (14-4, 9-2 CCC) bested the Nor'easters (3-16, 2-10 CCC) for the second time in 11 days and move a half game ahead of Nichols College atop the league standings.

Spencer made 12-of-21 field goals to go with eight rebounds for the hosts. Cameron Collins secured a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards in support. Clay Brochu and Chris Peasley added seven points apiece.

Salve Regina shot 45 percent (31-for-69) in contest and had a 48-16 scoring advantage in the paint, while finishing with a 49-40 edge on the glass. The Nor'easters made twice as many treys (10-5), but only connected at a 29 percent clip (18-of-63) from the floor.

For UNE, Ray Evans was back in the lineup for the first time in nearly two months and dropped a career-high 25 points, knocking down 8-of-14 from three-point land. Alex Kravchuk contributed nine points and seven caroms; Avery DeBrito matched those team-best seven rebounds, and dished out five assists.

Spencer and Collins got the Seahawks out to a 9-0 start, only to see a couple triples by Evans have the visitors back within 11-8. The margin shifted between nine (22-13) and one (24-23) before settling on six (35-29) at the break.

Another nine unanswered by SRU began the 2nd half and stretched the cushion into double digits (44-29) for good with under 17 minutes to play.

The Nor'easters will be back at home Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) taking on Curry College (1-10 CCC).
