Norwich gets past UNE, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Norwich University survived a huge 2nd-set rally by the University of New England to pick up a 3-0 women's volleyball result (25-19, 28-26, 25-10) on Wednesday evening (Sep. 8) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Cadets (3-0) dropped the initial point of the opening frame but tallied the next five to gain the lead for good. UNE managed to get within one at 10-9 and 17-16, however the visitors registered the following four to get a cushion. 

The Nor'easters led 11-8 in the middle set until nine unanswered by NU (17-11). The spread was still seven (23-16) before the hosts surged back to level things at 23-23. UNE served for the set at 26-25, only to see the Cadets take a commanding advantage moments later. Norwich then responded to UNE's opening point of the 3rd with 11 straight and never looked back.

Kathryn Farnum paced the winners with 17 points on 15 kills and a hand in four of the team's five blocks. Addison Hall added 10 kills, Sarah Farnum contributed 36 assists, and Maggie McNeil went for nine kills and four aces. Defensively, after Laura Farnum's 24 digs, S.Farnum and McNeil recorded 12 and 11, respectively.

The Cadets hit at a .259 clip during the match, while the Nor'easters totaled a .065 attack percentage on the night.

UNE (2-2) received 13 kills from Viktoria Pavlyuk, and eight more out of Lauren Davenport. Stephanie Erickson had six kills, four aces, and a pair of blocks. Addie Miller guided the offense with 27 assists, and her nine digs were second-only on the squad to the 19 notched by Paige Weatherbee.

The Nor'easters head to Plymouth State University on Saturday for a couple matches against the Panthers and Saint Michael's College.
