Davenport powers Nor'easters past Curry, 3-0

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lauren Davenport smashed 15 kills with an attack percentage of .238 as the University of New England notched a 3-0 women's volleyball win (27-25, 25-23, 25-16) over Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match Tuesday evening (Sep. 28) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (5-8, 1-2 CCC) have defeated the Colonels (7-6, 1-3 CCC) in each of the 10 all-time meetings -- eight times in straight sets.

Davenport also contributed 11 digs for the hosts, whose defensive effort was paced by Paige Weatherbee and her 23 digs. Stephanie Erickson and Adryona Miller both had six kills, and Addie Miller framed 37 assists.

For Curry, Lexi Pereia recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 14 digs. Brooke Reissfelder had 26 assists and 14 digs, while Lauren Guzman and Avia Fraine went for 17 and 12 digs, respectively. Amanda Wood dropped in three aces and had a hand in five of the team's seven blocks.

The 1st stanza saw 15 ties and 11 lead-changes, setting the stage for a tight finish. The visitors scored three in-a-row to go up 23-21, only to see the Nor'easters primed to take the set at 24-23 after a service ace by Morgan Lynch. Pereia wiped that away with a kill, and a UNE error nudged the Colonels in front. But a couple miscues of their own led the way to a Viktoria Pavlyuk kill that ended things.

In spite of an early 8-2 cushion for the hosts in the 2nd, Curry found five straight points to move ahead late, 21-19. The Nor'easters netted six of the next eight to claim the set, though, which included three winners from Davenport.

UNE led from the start of the 3rd, and pulled away from a two-point difference (15-13) down the stretch. Five players registered kills in the last 10 plays, highlighted by three out of Davenport and two by Rachel Possidento.

The Nor'easters will entertain Bridgewater State University in a non-league clash during Homecoming on Saturday (5:30 p.m.).
