Statistics

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sofia Orrico scored just over a minute into overtime to lift Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) over the University of New England, 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer matchup on Tuesday evening.

Orrico scored on her own as she dribbled up the left side of the field, cut inside past a defender and launched the game-winner to the top corner of the goal.

The Engineers outshot the Nor'easters 13-5 in the second half, but the UNE defense backstopped by four saves from goaltender Sydney Gillingham kept the game scoreless. Each team had a shot attempt in the overtime period.

Gilligham finished with 10 saves on the night. Lauren Paul had three stops in the shutout victory for WPI.

This was the third-consecutive overtime game for the Nor'easters and they are 1-1-1 over the stretch.

UNE is back in action at Barbara J. Hazard Field on Saturday for a Homecoming Weekend matchup against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Wentworth at 3 p.m.
