BIDDEFORD, Maine Maddie Scammell scored the game-winner in overtime as the University of New England triumphed over Gordon College, 1-0, a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer thriller on Saturday at UNE Blue Storm Stadium.

The first-year was able to gain possession of a loose ball just outside the top of the box and launched a shot from 25 yards away high off the left post and in to give the Nor'easters (5-2-1, 2-0-0 CCC) the win five minutes into the overtime period. [Watch]

Tori Keyes nearly fought off a defender and won it for UNE less than a minute into the extra frame, but her shot was just wide.

After an even first half with each team taking three shots, Gordon (5-2-0, 1-1-0 CCC) upped the pressure in the second half and outshot UNE, 7-0. The Nor'easter defense held strong and was able to keep the Fighting Scots off the board.

Sydney Gillingham made three saves in the second half and four on the day to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Tori Paine had one save for the visitors.

UNE had the only two shots in the overtime, but Gordon held a 10-5 advantage in attempts on the afternoon.
