BIDDEFORD, Maine – Gordon College defeated the University of New England, 6-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Scots (4-3, 1-1 CCC) controlled possession all game and outshot the Nor'easters 19-3 overall and 10-2 on goal.
Ryan Modzeleski tallied his third goal of the year off an assist by Chase Gwynn to begin the scoring in the sixth minute. Ben Mollenhauer and Julius Swaim each added goals in the first half as Gordon extended its lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Benji Wright sprinted past the UNE defense for a goal to start the second half. In the 76th minute, the Nor'easter goalkeeper was unable to corral a loose ball and AJ Pettitt gained possession before hitting Jarvin Ramirez to put Gordon in front, 5-0. Noah Martin finished the scoring with a marker in the 82nd minute.
Ollie Hammond allowed the first four goals and stopped three shots for UNE (1-7, 0-2 CCC), and
Sean McCarthy came in for the final 19:50 to make one save. Brody Veleber made two saves for Gordon in net.
The Nor'easters return to action at Colby on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
