SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Caroline Meuse scored her second goal of the season in the 39th minute to push the University of New England over Western New England University, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Meuse headed home a corner kick off the foot of Bella Reil to put the Nor'easters (4-2, 1-0 CCC) in front late in the first half.
 
The Golden Bears (3-3, 0-1 CCC) had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks and 10-5 on shots in the second half, but the UNE defense held strong and preserved the shutout. ­WNE led 17-10 in chances overall.
 
Claudia Kenneway made four saves, two in each half to backstop the shutout. Molly McLaughlin stopped three shots for the hosts.
 
UNE returns to action Wednesday at home against Bates at 7 p.m.
