Panthers top UNE to remain unbeaten

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State University emerged from a tight opening set and turned back the University of New England, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-11), in women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon (Sep. 11) at Foley Gymnasium.

The first frame included seven ties and four lead-changes, and the Panthers had only edged in front by two (20-18) before closing with five of the last seven points. The hosts were up for the entirety of the 2nd, but, again, only led by a couple (17-15) until a strong finish.

Plymouth State used a balanced attack to stay undefeated (5-0). Emilee Flanagan led all players with seven kills and three solo blocks, while Nora Ryan matched her 10.5 points largely behind six kills and four aces. Alexa Price totaled 26 assists, and Marissa Plaza scooped up 14 digs.

Luaren Davenport and Rachel Possidento each had five winners on the UNE side, and Davenport dropped in three aces. Addie Miller notched 16 assists, and Victoria Boutin recorded 10 digs.

The Nor'easters (2-4) are off until Friday and a date at Johnson & Wales University (R.I.).
